APB - All Points Bulletin - A Gamer Preview

APB is best described as an FPSMMO. Its release date is right around the corner and they have allowed an open beta to commence in order to give those who wish to see it, a taste of the game. This will be a subscription type game as most MMOs are and there will also be the initial cost of buying the game.

This game is undeniably trying to stand on its own feet as in independent MMO from all the rest. No Orcs, Elves or spells in this bad boy. Nothing but guns, gangs, and GTA style combat. The game is centered on the struggle between the two factions available in the game, The Enforcers and The Criminals. The simplest description of both is The Criminals cause the chaos of the city and the Enforcers are there to stop them, by any means. In other words, even though the Enforcers are the Cops and the "good guys" they really aren't all that good.

Most of the missions (at least the ones available in the beta) consist of The Enforcers trying to stop whatever mischief the Criminals are up to. It is extremely easy to get a quest going or jump into one already in progress. You can start your own group or join an open group. Most of the missions are randomly offered to you while running around; you can accept it and jump in or deny it and wait for another. It seems every couple of seconds a mission pops up so you won't feel like you have nothing to do.

In a game centered on PVP, you immediately worry about griefing and ganking. That is a mild concern as when you are off mission, you are not able to be shot or shoot anyone. There are exceptions such as when you are a criminal and you run over 1 to many pedestrians or commit too many crimes in front of witnesses, your Notoriety goes up, this is a meter of your noticed criminal activities, the higher it gets, the more chance you have enforcers dispatched during your missions. When it reaches 5, you instantly become a wanted criminal and are open game for everyone!

The fun factor of the missions is definitely high. Riding around in a car with your friends hanging out the window shooting at a car your chasing down, quite a thrill even after several times. If you like a GTA style FPS and MMOs than this game will appeal to you.

Some concerns are of course lag, that is a death sentence in an mmo. I did not have much trouble with my ping but the server was always pretty light on players, a full server may react different after release. There are also still many glitches I ran into, of course after time they will probably be fixed but certainly not before release. I was often able to hear people in the opposing faction talking rather than my own.

The last thing, but also a very big surprise and delight, is the amount of customization not only to your character, but to your own car and even the music. The attention to detail you can put into your vehicle and your character is amazing, I spent hours just painting my car and personalizing it. The higher ranks and more money you get, the more options you will have.

Overall I would say the game looks like it will be amazing, at least in the beginning. If the missions progress the same at higher ranks (same type of missions with better weapons) than it will certainly get old, but that remains to be seen. If they can fix the glitches and the other problems and still have time to add some content before people lose interest, I would say the game has a good chance of being a success.

Over the years, I have written on subjects that I find interesting and worth talking about. I have recently started a new website with information on Collapsible Water Bottle at Camelback Water Bottle.

Shopping for a Gamer

There is a lot to know about video games and the video game industry. Purchasing games, consoles and accessories for your friends and family can be daunting for first-time video game shoppers. Here are a few hints and tips to make holiday shopping faster and more effective.

Tip #1: Terminology

Holiday requests will come to you in two forms: verbally or as a list. You think you know what they want until you hit the store and find out there are many products of similar name.

Do not confuse the term "xbox" as a generic Microsoft gaming console. There are two xbox systems: Xbox and Xbox 360. If your loved one asks for a "360" it will be the Xbox 360. If they request an Xbox console in 2006, they're probably looking for the Xbox 360 because it's the new console. If you are unsure, ask. Getting the wrong games or the wrong system will lead to many incompatibilities and, likely, a return trip to the store.

The brands that will lead to confusion are:

Xbox

PlayStation

Nintendo

Each brand has at least two variants:

Xbox, Xbox 360

PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3

Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii

Sony and Nintendo have hand-held variants:

Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite

Sony PSP

Most confusion will arise when talking about last-generation and the current generation systems. Gamers looking for "the older system" will be talking about the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and/or Nintendo GameCube. Gamers asking for "the new system" will be looking for the Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

Many stores reference the newest console systems as "next-generation" which equates to "the new one." Know which generation you're looking for before buying games or systems. In a moment of desperation, simply remember the most expensive console will almost always be the newest console of the same brand. For example, the Xbox will be cheaper than the Xbox 360 (both Microsoft products) by a large degree. Many stores may push older products on you because it's a better "deal." Your gift may not hold the same surprise and enthusiasm if you purchase last generation's model.

Hand-Held gaming is more clear-cut for brand selection. Sony will offer the PSP product line and it won't be too confused with the Nintendo DS product line. The confusion will arise when you get to the store to find out that Nintendo is sporting two separate DS types: A standard DS and a DS "Lite." The DS Lite is the newest product by Nintendo and will be the best product for the price. It is a smaller product with a longer battery life and a brighter screen, everything else is about the same between the two. You may also choose a few colors (White, Black and Pink for the DS Lite). Use your best judgment when picking colors.

Tip #2: Availability

The chances are your looking to buy the next-generation video game system. Do not become frustrated with "sold out" signs - this is typical for the holiday season in a year when new technology arrives for the holidays.

Sony PlayStation 3 has arrived in very limited quantities while the Nintendo Wii has shipped many more quantities. Both systems are extremely new and all the gamers want them. Regardless of quantities, the chances are you will find many stores sold out this year. Be prepared to find an alternative or a creative way of saying sorry.

Online shopping may be the easiest solution to limited quantities. You can find the Nintendo Wii online quicker than hitting every store in the city. The Sony PlayStation 3 may not be found at all but there is a great chance the person requesting the product knows of its limited launch figures.

Tip #3: Choosing The Best System

Some gamers want "a new console" but are not so fussy about which console it should be. If you're gaming friend is between five and fifteen they may fall in love with the Nintendo Wii because the games are more "child friendly" and the system caters to casual gamers and first time video gamers.

If you are buying for a teenager or gamer over twenty years of age you may find they desire an Xbox 360 or the PlayStation product line. These consoles offer a large variety of games with varying maturity levels. A large number of popular Xbox 360 titles are targeted towards "mature audiences" in a genre known as a first-person-shooter (FPS) which involves the gamer killing lots of "enemies" with weapons.

Your gamer enthusiast may be requesting a Sony PlayStation 3 because they're already proud owners of a Sony PlayStation 2. If you're having difficulty finding the new console system you may want to abort that mission and pickup some great PlayStation 2 games to satisfy their demands. The PlayStation 2 product line has the largest selection of games on the market which means you will have a broad range of products for great gift ideas.

Tip #4: Figuring Out What They've Got

Before you can shop for a new game, you must know what the gamer already has in their possession. This can be difficult to obtain but the fastest, most effective method, is to ask them to write down the games they already own. You can ask them what they want, but what do you buy them if it's sold out?

You may decide to go the black ops route and sneak into their archives using a digital camera (or notepad) and write down their current titles. This may work as well but requires a little more digital sleuth abilities and their list of game titles may be extensive.

Last resort? Ask them what "type" of games they like to play. Their answer may fit the following genres:

FPS or "Shooters": Games where the player runs around with various weapons and pulls off missions in world war scenarios or space alien battles.

Simulations: Games that simulate real world scenarios or activities and are typically not too violent (unless it's a war simulation of course).

Family: Games you can play with the entire family, may include puzzle games.

Racing: Competitive racing car games.

Sports: College Football, College Basketball, Pro Football, Pro Basketball, Hockey, Golf, etc.

Role Playing: Action/Adventure gaming which typically take place in a medieval setting with swords and dragons and such.

Action: Fast past almost "arcade" style games. Nothing too involved or serious but contains hours of game play. Some games may be violent (i.e. Saints Row on the Xbox 360) while others are silly and fun (i.e. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy on all consoles).

A big gamer may be in love with many genres of gaming but will often select one or two when they have to give gift ideas. They know the broader the selection the more confusing it can be.

Tip #5: Games Are Not Compatible Across Brands

Do not assume that a Nintendo game will work with an Xbox video game console. This is never the case because each brand is competing for your sale. There are some cases where the same brand will work from generation to generation but there are exceptions.

Many Microsoft Xbox games will work on the Microsoft Xbox 360, but not all of them. Microsoft publishes and maintains their current compatibility list at: http://www.xbox.com

PlayStation 2 games will work with the Sony PlayStation 3 so compatibility should not be a problem if you manage to get your hands on a Sony PlayStation 3 in 2006. Some games are reported to have issues but Sony is working to resolve them. Any gamer that receives a Sony PlayStation 3 will surely not complain if a few of their older games are not working up to par.

Nintendo's older GameCube games will work on the next-generation Nintendo Wii, including their older game controllers. A gamer with the older version of Nintendo's video game console will find more value with the Wii because their old games will still work.

Tip #6: The Picture (HDTV/SDTV)

If you are choosing a new video game console this year please consider the quality of your current television set. You do not have to hit the stores in search for a new High Definition TV if this is not in your budget because all console systems will work on a standard definition TV (STDTV).

If you want the best possible picture for this new system, please research your current televisions input possibilities. The Microsoft Xbox 360 comes with component cables that will work with a standard TV and most HDTVs. You may also purchase S-Video AV cables for older style TV's or VGA HD AV Cables for computer monitors or some HDTVs.

You will find that Sony's PlayStation 3 also arrives with component cables capable of both HTDV and SDTV. You may opt to purchase an HDMI cable if you plan on watching BluRay movies, have TV HDMI inputs and want to "future proof" your system (where the future is at least a year). An HDMI cable has the added benefit of including both audio and video into one small cable and will reduce clutter along with other technical advantages which would fill an entire article itself.

The Nintendo products all rely on standard television sets so no additional cable accessories will be required.

Tip #7: The Prices

The prices of the game console systems and games vary by brand but will be consistent in most stores and shopping areas. If you plan to buy the new Xbox 360 game Gears of War you'll find yourself paying USD $59.99 in almost any store you find. If you find a game that is cheaper in one store than another you should ask if it's on sale or pre-owned.

Some retailers will push "pre-owned" (used) games on you because they bring in a larger profit for the company. These games, typically, are as good as new and most professional game retailers will validate the game works or contains a scratch free surface for CD/DVD game media. Please be aware that some retailers will try to sneak you a pre-owned copy of a game over the new copy if you simply request the title by name.

Older generation consoles, Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, will have cheaper prices on the console system and the games. Many older games may vary in price because retailers have a huge supply and must get rid of them.

Just like old model cars, older games and game consoles will have lower prices and usually be a better deal than a new model. You must understand, if buying the product as a gift, you will want to make sure your gift receiver wants an older generation game or game console. Many avid gamers keep up on console technology aggressively and may be looking for the next greatest product, not the older models.

Tip #8: Purchasing Used Products

Used products, known as "pre-owned" by many retailers (it sounds better), have cheaper prices and are, usually, a better value. Most consoles utilize a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM media type so it is fairly easy to check the quality of the media by looking at the surface. This is not true, however, of console systems.

Purchasing a console as a pre-owned product can be dangerous if the retailer has not done proper and extensive testing. Many retailers will power on the system and put a game in the drive, if it boots then its ready to sell. This does not uncover overheating problems or system freezing that can occur over a long duration of play.

If you are buying a console system as a gift you may want to choose to purchase a product new over pre-owned to avoid passing on the hassle to the receiver of your lovable gift. Used games are much less risk then a used console.

Most retail outlets refuse to sell used PC video games because many games require license keys to play. Buying back a PC video game can lead to licensing issues and complications in the future and it's usually not a typical practice.

Tip #9: Extended Service Agreements

There are two service agreements you may run into while purchasing a console system: retail extended service agreement and manufacturer extended warranty. A retail outlet may offer an agreement they have supplied and when a product must be returned you bring it back to the store or chain you purchased the agreement with. A manufacturer extended warranty is issued by the company which created the product (i.e. Microsoft). If the product breaks, you ship it back to the manufacturer.

Most people believe service agreements are "free money" to the retail outlet and manufacturer. In many cases this will be true, with a special exception: early adopters. If you want to cover your product for an additional two years or more you may opt to purchase the agreement. If you are buying a product that is new to the market, such as the Sony PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii, it may be in your best interest to buy an extended agreement.

Unfortunately, it is common for manufacturers to produce products that have flaws in their initial designs. Many of these flaws do not rear their ugly head until after the 90-day express warranty or manufacturer's limited 1-year warranty. While newer products have fixed many of the flaws that are found by the early adopters, you might be the early adopter that was hit by the problem and it can become costly.

Tip #10: Understand Return Policies

Returning policies for video game products vary from retailer to retailer. One important thing to keep in mind: opening a video game seal limits your return choices. Most retail outlets will allow you to return a product if it is defective and it may be returned for the same product.

Most return policies do not tolerate the "I don't like it" reason for returning a product. Some retail outlets which are not 100% focused on gaming may allow you to return products after the seal has been opened but this isn't typical for a game store. Do not open a product if you are unsure you want to keep it.

Always keep your receipts handy, especially for gifts. Many online stores allow you to return games without a physical receipt because the records of the order are on hand. A walk-in store will require you to have a receipt or gift receipt for exchanges for different products. You may be able to return a product for the same product if you do not have a receipt but it is always advised to keep those receipts for roughly 30 days.

After 15 to 30 days, most company's in-store return policy will expire. You will be forced to talk with the publisher of the game or manufacturer of the console system to get further assistance.

Remember your implied limited warranty on products if you are living within the United States. Almost every state has a "limited" warranty on products that covers 1-year. This does not, however, cover acts of god or user error resulting in a broken product.

Electronic devices are sensitive and should be handled with care. Always use a surge protector to front-end any sensitive electronic equipment to avoid any "acts of god" from striking your neighborhood and causing electric shocks.

Hopefully these tips will make your holiday shopping a bit less stressful.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review

Drake, the modern Indiana Jones with attitude is back! This sequel outshines its predecessor. With great third person combat, excellent platform movement, and awesome graphics, you will not want to put it down. The player can direct Drake to take cover behind corners or low walls using either aimed or blind-fire to kill his enemies. The player can also have Drake fire while moving. If Drake is undetected by his enemies, the player can attempt to use stealth to take them out, such as by sneaking up behind them to knock them out with one hit, or by pulling an unsuspecting foe over a ledge from which Drake is hanging. Seamless cutscenes will give you the feeling of watching a hit Hollywood movie. Must have for action junkies!

MAG Review

When you first hear that MAG supports 256-player online matches, you may be inclined to picture hordes of soldiers swarming on top of one another and filling the air with thousands of bullets. The reality is that skirmishes play out on a much smaller scale, yet MAG still boasts some of the busiest battlefields in the genre. You have three factions to choose from, S.V.E.R., Raven, and Valor. Mag also boasts a command structure, allowing you to rise in the ranks and gain access to command abilities. There are four match types in MAG, though only two are available to you early on. Suppression and Sabotage (64 players) are good to start out on, but not as satisfying as Acquisition (128 players) and Domination (256 players). That when you will really feel like your in the middle of a war. Overall, a great multiplayer FPS if you love large scale battles.

How To Become a Great Online Gamer

Playing a new video game is often pretty intimidating some times, especially when it comes to messing things up for other gamers. When playing online, making mistakes isn't like when playing a single player game at home. Now your mistakes effect others as well. But don't let a fear of making mistakes stop you from enjoying online gaming. This article will teach you everything you need to know and give you the knowledge to become a great online player in any game you choose.

Often times, learning how to play offline can be a very good first step to teaching you the in's and out's of online play. You should definitely read any manuals available that come with the game for additional information. Or else, someone may say to you to "RTFM". Do you know what that acronym stands for? It means "Read The F****** Manual" and when a new gamer comes on and asks questions that are easily answered by reading the manual, expert gamers will use the "RTFM" acronym.

It wouldn't hurt to look up some game walkthroughs or online guides pertaining to your game of choice, prior to jumping into it. Spending even 20 mins reading a guide can differentiate you from a complete newbie to a player that appears to be experienced. And reading forums for your game is definitely a good option. In other words, you're going to need to read up a bit. Some of the information you would need to look up would be, how to create, control, and equip your character with the best kinds of gear, and general strategies for playing in the game of your choice. Your gaming peers will definitely appreciate it if you take the time to research beforehand.

Learning how to play the game is definitely important, but so is learning the games graphical interface. Having an understanding of where everything is located in the game, will speed things up for you, and generally make you a better player, and much more fun to play with. The quickest way to notice a newbie in a game, is to have to wait for them to find a window, or some sort of option in the game when it is completely obvious to everyone where it is.

In certain games, dying can happen quite often, it's best to not let pressure get to you and keep your cool when it does. Sometimes a player can hold up a game, because they are afraid of dying, doing your best and not giving up is one thing, but making a game last extended periods of time when it is clearly over, just takes away from everyone's enjoyment. Sometimes a losing game is just that: a loss. Chalk it up to a loss, start a new round and keep playing. Holding out waiting for a miracle to occur to save you from your impending loss is rarely ever going to happen. Make sure not to wait around hoping something like this will happen, simply allow your character to die and continue playing.

On that note, do not take dying personally, everyone does it, no matter how good you are. Also remember not to take the game to seriously, it is just a game after all. Dying can be a valuable learning experience, make sure you pick up on what exactly you did wrong, and how to avoid that situation in the future. In the end, you will learn many things that will get you killed in the game very easily, learn to avoid these.

Having a slow computer can drastically degrade game play experience, make sure your computer is up to date enough for the game you are playing. Having a fast internet connection is the best option, but unfortunately isn't one for everyone. If you still have a slow connection, be mindful that your experience will suffer because of it. Even with a fast internet connection, having a slow computer will hinder you the moment you enter the game, make sure you meet the minimum system requirements at the least.

Adding a good gaming video card, with a fast processor and a good amount of ram will ensure your PC is ready to tackle your favorite games.

Also something important to take into account is your control setup. If playing a PC game, it's important to have a good keyboard and a gaming mouse with plenty of buttons that will allow you to keybind all your important abilities or weapons. It would also be best to invest in a PC gamepad that is designed to help in the game of your choice. Wireless PC gamepads are available as well to cut down on the wire clutter, and there is no substitute for using a PC steering wheel when playing a racing game. There are PC gamepads available with many buttons that are designed to be used with FPS's, MMO's and RTS games.

Taking these points into account will allow you to go from newbie to pro very quickly and without to much frustration.

And finally, always remember to have fun playing, do not take it to serious, it's just a game...

First-Person Shooter (FPS) Gamer Reviews

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Review

Systems: PC, PS3, 360

The Call of Duty series has been a mainstay in the FPS genre for a while now, and this is the biggest and baddest yet. With single player, Co-Op, and online multiplayer, each game mode is a different gaming experience in itself. The single player campaign is a little too short for my liking at under six hours, but with a stronger emphasis on complex terrain in the environments, weather effects, and destructible objects, you will feel like your right in the trenches. One feature I especially enjoy is the chatter of your team in the campaign. It isn't often in games that you'll hear your squad call out specific areas on the map and have it mean anything. When your friend shouts, "Two tangos behind the yellow station wagon!" you'll actually see two enemies behind a yellow station wagon. It's a pretty engaging experience.

Borderlands Review

Systems: PC, PS3, 360

Borderlands' style is somewhat of a twist on first person shooters. It has an RPG touch, as in you level and have passive skills you add, as well as the way equipment is handled. Don't misunderstand though, it is all fast paced FPS action. However, like Diablo-type RPGs, it is loot driven. You will be killing lots of things in order to get bigger and better guns. Not that this is a bad thing, just to let you know what you are getting here. If you ask me, Diablo FPS = thumbs up.

7 Berserkers out of 10

Killzone 2 Review

Killzone 2 will make you feel in the battlefield like few FPS's can do. This game has set a new standard for first person shooter games on the PS3, with mostly destructible environments and exceptional lighting and particle effects. The motion control feature on the PS3 is used to good effect in this game. The best example is having to hold the controller steady with a sniper rifle. Killzone 2 also takes into effect explosions and such while trying to aim. Too bad it is only for the PS3, but if you do own a PS3, you will want this in your game library.

Reasons to Buy a Gaming Mouse If You Are a Serious Gamer

As someone who is only gaming occasionally, say about an hour every few days, a causal gamer can get by with an optical mouse that costs about $10. However, as soon as you begin to play more games and are starting to take gaming seriously, an investment in a gaming mouse is your top priority. Especially if you are a competitive person.

So why buy a gaming mouse? Well, if you play games that require a lot of reaction based actions like first person shooters or real time strategy, then you will know that sensitivity and reliability is very important. It is even more so if you are playing online against real human players when every little bit of extra edge counts. It could mean the different between a headshot or an embarrassing miss.

Gaming mouse are designed and built differently to regular mouse in a number of ways. Efforts are focused on strengthening the various aspects that are crucial for a mouse when used for a game. Lets have a look at some of these reasons.

Durability

A mouse used for gaming are under a lot more stress than a regular mouse. It will be used for hours on end with a lot of movement. It even gets banged onto the desk or abused when the game you are playing is not going your way! All these means wear and tear for the mouse. For these reasons gaming mouse are built to be more solid and durable. The buttons are made sturdier, the gliding mechanism is made to endure long periods of use. These designs prevents the mouse from breaking prematurely and when you need it the most.

Sensitivity

This can mean different things to different people. Some people prefer to play with ultra high sensitivity on their games, which means a small amount of movement on the mouse pad bringing a huge movement on screen. Others like professional FPS gamers prefer to set their game up with ultra low sensitivity with a lot of precision but huge movements. Most gamers full somewhere in between.

With a good mouse you can alter the settings to suit your needs. Some of the best gaming mice would even let you change sensitivity on the fly during a game. With a gaming mouse, you get the ultimate control. With a regular mouse, you don't have this luxury.

Customization

A Gaming mouse have more buttons than a regular mouse. You can also customize their functions by programming them using software that comes with the mouse. These buttons provide huge advantage in competitive game as it completely frees you from the need to reach for the keyboard. Everything is at your fingertips. This increase efficiency and ultimately your ability to win. Buttons are also customizable so that they can be assigned different functions depending on the game that you are playing. Some mice also allow you to have multiple configuration profiles so you can switch them between different games.

The best gaming mouse like the logitech g7 even comes with customizable weights so that the weight of the mouse will be exactly the way you like it.

Ergonomics

Regular mice tends to come in pretty much a similar shape. They all seem to be designed the same: a lump of plastic with buttons on them and a wire attached to it. With gaming mice, there are a number of variations. Some are designed for people who prefer to use claw grip (holding the mouse with the middle and index finger) while others are designed for people who use palm grip. Some mouse are made for users with bigger hands while others are made for smaller hands. The height of the mouse are different as well. These features let you use the mouse for longer, and prevent conditions that arise from long period of repetitive moments or sustaining an unnatural positions.

Top 10 Gamer Guns

When it comes to action/shooting games, the guns you choose can make or break your success. The best guns depend on which game, which gamer, and which tactical scenario you find yourself in. Consideration is given to the five main classes of gamer guns, their popularity, and the games they're in to bring you a list of the Top Ten Gamer Guns (and their civilian equivalents).

Assault Rifles

M16 (AR-15) Series: Modern Warfare 2, Metal Gear Solid Series, Left 4 Dead, GTA Series:

Some versions of the M16, and its civilian counter-part, the AR-15, have not only been everywhere in gaming, but have been at the top of their class and perhaps the best (gamer) guns in the world. These are the primary guns to bring into any gamer battlefield. The "Black Rifle" is the one you pick for stealth (MGS), full-on combat (MW2) pure chaos (GTA) or fighting off massive zombie hordes (Left 4 Dead). And no matter what you need it to do, the M16 (AR-15) can get it done.

AK-47: Modern Warfare 2, Black, GTA Series, Counter Strike:

Neck-and-neck in the battle for greatest (gamer) gun in the world, the AK-47 is battle-hardened, time tested and found almost everywhere guns meet games. The AK-47 may not be as accurate as the AR-15, but it is often cited as the definitive assault rifle for any engagement. As the cream-of-the-crop in MW2, the AK-47 can't be denied on a cyber playing field.

Sub-Machine Guns (SMG)

MP-5 (GSG-5) Series: Rainbow Six, GoldenEye, GTA Series, The Punisher, Resident Evil 5

As a civilian, you'll find it as the GSG-5, but in the virtual world, the MP5 is the dominant gun of its class. This highly adaptable SMG takes many forms, making it perfect for most any tactical encounter. This is the gun you go for in the automatics class for GoldenEye. Cut to Rainbow Six and you'll see that the MP-5 SMG is better than an assault rifle for close range counter-terrorism. My favorite use of this gun, though, has got to be when a friend picks up the sticks with Sheva in RE:5 and lays down suppressive fire on some lickers while I break out the big guns.

P90 (PS90): Counter-Strike, GoldenEye, Black, Modern Warfare 2, Rainbow Six

Bond's favorite power weapon in GoldenEye (known there as the RCP-90). In games of modern combat this gun is bad-ass. Designed for the 5.7x28mm round, a tailor-made tactical cartridge, the P90 and its civilian cousin the PS90 are well known for cutting down targets in a hurry. Large magazine capacity, fast rate of fire and overall awesomeness make the P90 a fan favorite when ever combat gets intense and you're running out of armor.

Handguns/Side-Arms

1911: Metal Gear Solid 3 & 4, Medal of Honor Series, Call of Duty Series, Battlefield Series

New or old, this pistol has been the side arm of choice for WWII soldiers to Modern Warriors to Covert Operatives. Both Naked Snake (Big Boss) and his son Solid Snake use one as their primary gun in their stealth operations. Infiltrating a nuclear facility using mainly a 1911 pistol? Yeah, this gun's got what it takes. A century old handgun design that still kicks-ass is a clear choice for the number one gamer gun side arm. You know too well how effective the 1911 pistol can be when it comes to finding the next check point.

Desert Eagle: Resident Evil Series, Tomb Raider, Counter-Strike, Fall Out, Max Payne

It's not just large and in charge, video game vixen Lara Croft showed us that the Desert Eagle, or Deagle as you may prefer, is the handgun of choice for taking down dinosaurs while still looking sexy. Our friends in Raccoon City showed how this pistol is the perfect zombie slayer, by blowing through a line of undead slack-jaws with a single shot. But when it comes to tactical, a Desert Eagle handgun is all the power you need to clear a map single handed. The power of the Deagle is uncompromised.

Shotguns

Remington 870: Battlefield Series, Black, Resident Evil Series, Max Payne 2

FPS or third person action, no criminal, soldier, terrorist or zombie can withstand the power of the Remington 870 shotgun. The simplistic beauty of this tactical shotgun has been relied upon to punch through doors, drop advancing insurgents and decimating zombie hordes. The premier shotgun for gamers.

Saiga Shotgun: Metal Gear Solid 4, Battlefield Series, SOCOM

It looks like an AK, but it demolishes targets like a shotgun. The Saiga is a unique tactical shotgun that seems underrated in the world of gamer guns. Maybe it doesn't have the impact of a Remington, but the Saiga gives you shotgun power with a fast rate of fire that any tactical gamer should be able to appreciate. That is, unless you like getting pawned by newbs with lucky head shots.

Sniper Rifles

SVD Dragunov: Metal Gear Solid 3 & 4, Battlefield Series, Resident Evil 5, Modern Warfare

What can I say, the Russians make good guns. That being said, the SVD, one of the most easily recognizable sniper rifles in the world, makes a good rifle and good gamer gun. If you don't want the stamina kill, the SVD is the best way for snake to take out The End. Or you could use one to put a precise hit into the weak spot of that weird-spider beast In resident evil. Either way, The Dragunov is a gamer gun for the ages.

Remington 700: Modern Warfare, Battlefield Series, GTA Series

Simple. Reliable. The bolt-action Remington 700 can hit its mark from half-way across the map and keep you leveling up one shot at a time. Reserved for those with skill and patience, only elite gamers have truly mastered this gamer gun. A great sniper rifle for great gaming snipers.

Reasons Why It's Worth To Be A PC Gamer

What do I mean by "worthwhile" and "promising"? Well, I never intended to just wildly list every game that can be played on PC, so I had to set up some criteria. For games that already were released the easiest way to judge their quality is through reviews. This listing originated from Gamespot and that still is the main source of reviews for this list. There are exceptions though, they had to be made because unfortunately Gamespot ignores large amount of PC games, especially those that aren't available in retail. That's why you will occasionally see review scores from other sites here. I tried to choose the most respectable and trustworthy ones for this task, like Out of Eight for indie games or Adventuregamers form well... adventure games :)

For upcoming titles it's obviously harder to pick the games. I rely on my instincts, but since those can never be trusted I always need some backing up first. The most obvious ones is if the game is made by people who already have proven themselves with other games or mods or if it's a sequel to a good game. Those are the main criteria, but they aren't enough. I take real pleasure in listing lots of indie games and those are mostly done by newcomers, it's a bit better if they previously made a good freeware titles, but that's not always a case. So in cases of indie titles I like to use awards and nominations for such awards, especially those from Independent Games Festival or at the very least the game should have positive previews before I list them.

All this is done to show the good side of PC gaming, so positive selection was necessary. I hope those listings will be useful to you and will help you to discover interesting games you had no idea about.
