Modern Warfare 2 was released well over a month now, and gamers across the world have had adequate time to review new features and functions, and to create educated opinions about the game. Now it was never in doubt that the game would be "good" in an abstract sense, but sequels are never reviewed in a vacuum. The true questions is whether or not the game includes enough of the original to be familiar and comfortable while introducing enough new features to make the additional investment worth it.
So, does the sequel succeed in answering these two questions? In a word, yes.
The Spec Ops mode now available in the second iteration of the game is simply amazing. The creative team really took the feature in a brilliant direction. This is the type of exit from the original that will either have gamers raving about how awesome it is, or pining for the streamlined nature of the original.
From a technical standpoint the improved matchmaking features have really helped immersion and smoothness of the overall game play. Users no longer have to worry about being disconnected in the middle of a match because the host had to suddenly depart. It does a great job of accepting user input parameters and matching gamers in the most computable way possible.
New weapons are one of the key components that any user looks at when deciding whether or not purchase the sequel of their favorite FPS game. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 does not disappoint in this regard. Whether it is shooting opposing aircraft out of the sky with RPG's or charging an enemy position with the riot shield players will have a blast finding the best ways to utilize all of their new toys.
I would give this game a definite thumbs up, and would encourage any fan of the franchise to pick this title up in time for Christmas.
