Quake Live Introduction

Quake Live is a relatively new browser-based video game. A browser-based game is pretty self-explanatory: it is a game that runs from your internet browser. It is a remake of the very popular game Quake 3 Arena, which came out in 1999 and was praised by video game critics and players alike. The game has been featured in competitive scenes for many years, and has been used in tournaments and leagues. Quake is such a popular gaming series, in fact, that a LAN party called QuakeCon is held in Dallas yearly that attracts thousands of gamers from around the world.

The game is not your typical FPS (First Person Shooter): it is extremely fast paced, and very skill based. It takes a lot of practice to become proficient at the game because the learning curve for the game is ridiculously steep. Newcomers to the game may be very discouraged when they join a game that is far above their skill level and get pummeled by higher-level players. They can avoid this by not joining a game that is orange or red, which is typically full of professionals that have been playing for years. It is recommended to do offline practice against computer players before trying your skills on multiplayer as you can begin learning the layouts of the maps, the pros and cons of the different weapons, and which weapon is better to use at which range, situation, etc. This is not a light, easy, or casual game, and you will become frustrated if you don't practice and learn the game before trying your hand at multiplayer matches.

A few general tips to start playing the game will be given, but going in depth would require a book's worth of content in order to teach you all the tricks and tips and movements. Some essential moves you need to learn in order to move faster in the arena include strafe jumping and circle jumping. Strafe jumping is essentially where you hold down your move forward key and one of the strafe keys, jump, and then alternate the strafe key while still holding the forward key and jumping right when you land. If you want even more speed, then you move your mouse in the direction of the strafe. It's not too complicated, and if you practice it enough, within a matter of days, or a couple short weeks, you'll have nearly mastered it. There are very useful videos on Youtube to learn this, and many other techniques, I recommend viewing them.

Now that you know a bit bout the game, stop reading, and start playing! See you in the Arena.

An Introduction to Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 will be a FPS game, which uses the new Frostbite 2 graphics engine which provides probably the most realistic FPS experience seen within a game. This highly-anticipated sequel to Battlefield 2 (released in 2005) makes it possible for you to assume the role of elite U.S. Marines and experience breathtaking warfare in spectacular locations for example Iraq, Iran, New York, Paris and Wake Island.

Apart from ground combat, making use of vehicles is an essential part within Battlefield 3 - make use of a tank in order to blast an opening in the opposition's defence, or even call up an air attack. This game has single player gameplay, a cooperative option, as well as multiple multi-player game modes.

GAME FEATURES:

Realistic Combat - The extraordinary Frostbite 2 technology will immerse gamers within the Battlefield 3 environments, such as claustrophobic streets, city downtown areas, and wide open environments suited to vehicles.

Unmatched Vehicle Combat - The franchise's highly-rated vehicular warfare gets even better, with a huge variety of armoured cars, tanks, boats, ships, planes and helicopters accessible by players in the campaign, co-op and multiplayer modes.

Exhilarating Single-Player Campaign - Assume the role of United States Soldier Henry Black to wage extreme warfare within spectacular destinations world-wide. An unparalleled sandbox freedom allows one to approach every battle how you want, and employ numerous vehicle types within these vehicle-friendly locations.

Mind-Blowing Multi-Player Modes - Experience exhilarating multiplayer game play that include up to 24 gamers online. Multiplayer game modes consist of Conquest, Rush, Squad Deathmatch, Squad Rush as well as Team/Squad Deathmatch.

Cooperative Gameplay - Two players can play co-op games online with each cooperative mission having its own storyline as well as dialogue inside the overall cooperative story. Cooperative strategies must be utilized and players should coordinate together in order to complete missions.

The new version of the Frostbite 2 engine, designed by Digital Illusions CE, offers all of the following enhancements:

Superior Destruction - Any destruction of structures and scenery is a lot more realistically portrayed. Through the major damage of an rocket strike, to negligible destruction due to bullets creating chips in walls, this game engine delivers life-like battlefield damage.

Realistic Soldier Animation - The new character animation technology called ANT, used in EA sports titles (FIFA 12), generates more life-like character animations. Soldiers have got more realistic body motions as well as responses.

Next-Generation Rendering - Amazing graphical and lighting improvements, for example light variations inside dark areas, the sun coming through clouds of smoke, and airborne particles of dust being visible within rays of sunshine are a few enhanced rendering effects of Frostbite 2.

Massive Environments - Within Battlefield 3 you will travel over some of the biggest maps actually seen in a game, such as vast desert terrains as well as urban environments - all environments rendered in amazing detail.

HDR Audio - Dynamic sound provides accurate, ambient sounds in various locations. Authentic firearm sounds are influenced by environmental variables (outdoor, indoor, size of open-space and echo factors).

The official launch date for Battlefield 3 is scheduled for September 30th, and is going to be sold on these systems: PS3, PC/Windows and Microsoft Xbox 360. The video game will be published by Electronic Arts, and this game was developed by Digital Illusions CE (DICE). PEGI 18 is the official PEGI ranking for the video game, that means it is appropriate for ages 18 and higher. Multiplayer options will be offered in this video game, for up to 24 gamers.

Basics - An Introduction to RTS Gaming

I know what most of you are thinking; who plays RTS games anymore? They're nothing compared to things like FPS games or RPGs. Well first off, if you do not know what an RTS game is, it stands for Real Time Strategy games.

In layman's terms, these games are closely related to chess. As you would in chess, you need to strategize in order to defeat your opponent. Normally in RTS games, you would be controlling an army of units (similar to chess's concept) and trying to defeat your opponent's army.

Most people underestimate RTS gamers. In RTS games, people need to carefully plan out what they need to do for a sure victory. On top of all this, they need to manage an army and know where and how to place them. For instance, there is a game made by Blizzard called StarCraft. It takes place in a space environment setting where you have alien, human, and monster races duking it out for survival. An RTS gamer would pick a race and make sure that they are the last one standing in the game. There are professional RTS gamers out there for StarCraft that knows how everything works within the game. Normally, when you see an professional RTS gamer play, you'd think that everything is preset in their mind on what to do and their actions on the screen is automated. You are right. Normally, you get good in RTS games by knowing all the possible strategies. It's just a matter of incorporating it in the game. These RTS gamers can reach up to 100+ APM (actions per minute). This means that they can perform 100 actions in the game in a span of one minute. So you can just imagine all the clicking and the screen changes happening when they play.

I think that these gamers are rare. RTS gamers are usually good in their own niche. For example, you would have a really good RTS gamer in Starcraft and be mediocre player in Warcraft (RTS version, not World of Warcraft). The key to becoming a good gamer is to know the game and all possible strategies within the game. Only then you can apply it to your playing style.

I hope you liked my article.

Introduction to Online Gaming

There's a lot to know to start with about online gaming before you even attempt to target your chosen niche. Most of the people involved in online gaming are pretty clued up about their chosen game and are extremely cynical.

This is probably why not many people have tried to tackle online gaming as a useful niche. True, a lot of people are cynical as a whole but even more so amongst the online gaming community.

A lot of people have a lot of different and conflicting views and there's nothing more frustrating than attempting to put your view across to someone who is adamant that they are right. Gaming forums are pretty harsh places to go to as well when you are new to gaming as a whole.

The main people who are gamers are obviously male. Why? Probably because of the competitive nature of online games and the fact that it's easy to hide behind a computer screen and express yourself.

The fact that online gaming is starting to actually be classes as a legitimate sport may seem strange if you've never ventured in to one of these games before. Games these days are extremely skill and tactics based and seem to be the "chess modern times".

The skill level can vary wildly when playing online.

Take my favourite game online Quake, this is classed as an "FPS" game or "First Person Shooter" (not to be confused with FPS - frames per second).

It first started off in 1996. It was and still is one of the biggest online games of all time and well known throughout the world. Last summer Quake 4 was released. You have players new to quake 4 and players who have been playing Quake since 1996. That's 10 years of solid experience at playing. You may be shocked if you were to play Quake 4 today and find one player who will beat every player in a chosen server by an extremely high margin. You may not even be able to "frag" or kill this player yourself.

A lot of these players will have a "tag in front or after their names showing that they are part of a "clan" or "gang". These clans are made up of many types of people young and old and a lot of these clans are filled with "pro" gamers who can actually afford to send their players around the world to compete in tournaments through the sponsor ship money they receive from big companies. A lot of clans just play for fun or in the numerous online leagues and tournaments. Each clan constitutes a mini community which interacts with other clans and creates a huge ever-changing community within the chosen game.

Another style of game that is played by millions of people everyday is the mmorpg.

This is a multiplayer online game that is normally fantasy based where you team up with players fro all over the world and go on missions and join guilds the equivalent to Quake Clans. A lot of these games you have to actually "pay to play" online. So you pay a monthly subscription fee just to play online every month.

Another HUGE "FPS" game is Counter Strike which has one of the biggest online FPS communities at the moment, also worth checking out is "Battle Field 2"

The best way to get involved in gaming is to simply pick a game and jump in the deep end. Get online and experience it for yourself pick a type of game you think you would enjoy playing, because after all, most people play games for fun. If you're aiming to be successful marketing your product within the gaming community you have to have first hand experience.

Why work in a niche market like weddings for example when you have never been married or don't work in the marriage industry to start with? If you have been married once or even twice then you only have those few experiences to draw experience from, where as in the gaming world, everyday could would become a fresh experience in an ever-changing community and online word.

Who knows, it may even becomes a permanent hobby for you as well and you can learn to work with something you enjoy!

An Introduction to RPG Gaming

There are plenty of people out there who claim that they are "hardcore gamers"; people who spend countless hours on counter strike or Team Fortress 2, but not actually trying out other genres of games. I guess you can categorize the different types of gamers out there; FPS gamers, RPG gamers, or RTS gamers. I believe that being a true hardcore gamer, you'd have to be good at every game you play and be able to pick up on the game play right away.

I figured that with this article, I would discuss about the different gamers out there and their preferred games. To start the ball rolling, I just have to mention that all gamers are very skilled in what they do. Each type of genre requires great deal of thinking and strategizing.

I would have to classify RPG gamers as one of the most patient gamers out there. The reason for this is because in RPGs (role playing games), it usually requires you take a character's part (step into their role) and plan out how the character will grow through-out the game. This can be tough to do because not only do you have to plan out how your character will turn out in the end, but you'll also need to work hard to achieve the results you want for your character. For instance, if you've ever played any of the final fantasy series game, you'd know that you're "controlling" a team of fantasy characters such as wizards, warriors, archers, etc. To get a good strong team, you would need to make sure that all your team members have the strongest items and good stats. To get good stats, you'd need to make sure that you level them up; and to level up, you would need to defeat plenty of enemies. All of this takes a lot of time and effort.

Another good example for this would be Massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs). If you haven't heard of world of warcraft yet, then I'm afraid you've been living under a rock. MMORPGs are pretty much RPGs but played online. There are hundreds of thousands playing world of warcraft all over the world trying to build their character to have the best stats and have the best equipment. Believe me when I say, it takes a long time to be a decent player.

Gaming Basics - An Introduction to FPS Gaming

I've always seen FPS gamers as the most "alert" gamers out there. Normally, there would be some sort of grace time when playing RPGs or RTS games where you can take a 5 minute breather and just plan on what you need to do. Now I'm not saying that RPG gamers or RTS gamers get it easy, they both have their challenges. FPS gamers are used to playing under pressure. FPS (first person shooter) gamers gain a sense of alertness and increased dexterity because of the game mechanics.

FPS games require you to be in a first person view (as if you're actually walking inside the game) and shoot anything that threatens your existence! Of course, if you're new to fps games, it's hard to take a shot at someone who's more experienced. Not to mention, the nervousness would kick in and your cursor would probably be missing your enemy; then you'll just end up shooting everywhere. This is absolutely normal.

During the first few times of playing an FPS game, it's difficult to react to unexpected things. For instance, the first FPS game that I've ever played was counter strike. Now, for someone that was such a newbie, I thought it was a good idea to shoot and move side to side; this way the enemies would have a harder time hitting me. The first enemy that I encounter, I get knifed down. How you may ask? He was moving around quite a bit and also knew how I was shooting. Obviously, that player was very experienced.

All in all, with any game, it takes practice. FPS gamers gradually acquire the sense of "readiness" by playing often and challenging new people. Their reflexes and dexterity increases through time, resulting in outstanding game play.

I hope it helped you to a learn a few basics about FPS gaming. I would be back with more FPS gaming techniques.
