Review of Max Payne 2 and Warzone 2100

Review of Max Payne 2:

Remedy studio's had a lot to live up to when they decided to make this sequel to the classic Max Payne game.

After settling back into his police work job after the mess of the 1st game Max finds himself bumping into a woman he encountered previously and who he thought was dead. They then proceed to drag each other into another murder mystery.

The game play is very similar to the first game in that you explore a dark and sinister city that is filled with thugs who seem intent on filling you with as many holes as possible. The awesome bullet time aspect of the game is still here however you no longer need to kill enemies to build it up. Remedy must have figured out that players didn't like having to constantly try to conserve their bullet time for harder parts of the game and just wanted to use it all the time.

The graphics have been improved very noticeably which means the game looks prettier but it does require a slightly more powerful PC to run than the original game.

Overall an excellent FPS with a really sinister and creepy storyline (just wait till you get to the circus).

Review of Warzone 2100:

Seems to me that the designers of this game were called into a board meeting one day and asked to produce the most generic real time strategy game they could. If that was the case then full credit to the team, as that is exactly what they've done

Warzone 2100 takes place on a post apocalyptic world with various factions fighting each other for control of various resources. Most missions involve the player setting up an economy via resource gathering and protecting it from enemy units whilst building up an army of their own which will eventually have to go and destroy the other bases on the map.

The buildings are all generic, a few for troop buildings, some for research, towers for defense. All the units are very generic, tanks, trucks, soldiers etc...

The game claims that the 3d terrain is an important aspect however I feel all it does it get in the way of certain camera angles when you are trying to see what your troops are doing.

If you are a die hard fan of RTS games then you will probably get a decent amount of enjoyment out of this title, however for the rest of us there are a whole host of other game choices that we could choose from in the RTS genre that are a lot more fun than this.
