Cabela's Alaskan Adventure - From a Gamer's Point of View

Looking for a very engaging hunting experience? Or are you into arcade-style of hunting games? Sorry, but you're in the wrong page. Cabela's Alaskan Adventures is another Cabela game that adds to a collection of trying-hard hunting games that's why you better think thrice not twice if you want to spend you moolah on something that you would be more than willing enough to throw in the end.

As the title indicates, Adventure mode is the primary main mode of Cabela's Alaskan Adventures. Once done customizing your character, you'll be taught on the nitty-gritty parts of playing the game. Afterwards, you'll be brought to the first of four outposts. Outposts act as the central hub for launching your hunts in the wilderness. From here you can also purchase your hunting equipments, such as decoys, guns, bows and other gears.

Each outpost leads to a couple of hunting grounds and boards for joining tournaments like fishing, duck hunting or dog sledding. The graphics are not worth mentioning since they are largely plain and the disagreeable low resolution textures provide ugly shining and aliasing effects. It doesn't get more frustrating as you start hunting. There's a stamina bar that prevents hunters from moving freely across the vast land.

Once you run out of stamina, you need to pause for a while to regain strength while hearing some heavy breathing on the background. The animals aren't worth hunting also because they're only separated into two AIs: running crazy in circles or attacking you. Progress from one post to another requires completing three main hunts and one fishing challenge.

Overall, Cabela's Alaskan Adventures falls short in both providing a simulation and arcade gaming experience. It's a wonder why these kinds of games don't follow the success of recent FPS and stealth games. It's a real pity.
